Last night, on a brisk and breezy Wednesday evening, we were treated to something very warm and special. Although billed as ‘An Acoustic Evening with Laura Frank’, it was so much more than just that.
The venue – the beautiful White Chapel in Kalbar welcomed us into its cosy gardens with twinkling, lit trees and glasses of champagne. As we mingled with the other guests (it was a sold out event), we sipped, chatted and, every now and then, took a peek inside the chapel.
The grand white doors had been flung open and a soft glow emanated from within. It was hard to resist a look! There were rows of pretty white bentwood chairs, elegant, sparkling chandeliers and a sublime backlit altar framed on either side by two magnificent all-white floral arrangements.

The vision was so mesmerising, I could easily see why this historic chapel has become such a popular award winning wedding venue in this quaint little country town.
But we weren’t here for a wedding. In front of the altar stood two gleaming guitars, matching stools, and on a table to one side, a picture of a hunky, John Travolta-style-looking guy. Intriguing!

Soon we were ushered into the chapel and took our seats. In this intimate setting we were entertained not only by Laura Frank’s hauntingly beautiful and powerful voice as she performed a repertoire of original songs, but also by her sweet, funny and humble personality. The room was filled with many people familiar to her, but she spoke to all of us like close friends do on a night out for a long, overdue catch up.

It was delightful, and the congenial atmosphere in the chapel reflected her happy vibe.
We were treated to the first live performance of her new single “How Do We”, and teamed with long time collaborator and partner, Nick Morrissey, the evening of stripped back music and stories from the road, really delivered.
Mingling in the courtyard of the chapel afterwards, we felt as warm and glowing as the chapel’s soft lighting looked. We’d just spent the evening with a newly found ‘friend’, enjoyed amazing sounds and pondered the future of Laura Frank – destined to shake up the country music scene in the nicest possible way.
Oh, and the sexy guy on the chapel table? Laura’s dreamy star-hero in her upcoming music video. Stay tuned for this and her first album, due out in October.
